Texas Public School Nutrition Policy

Texas Public School Nutrition Policy
More than 35 percent of Texas children are considered overweight or obese, which is significantly higher than the nation as a whole. Our schools are in a powerful position to influence children, which is why we created the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy.

These nutrition guidelines are a result of a collaborative effort among parents, school administrators, health professionals and members of the food industry. Its purpose? To promote a healthier environment in Texas schools and help ensure a healthier future for Texas children.

Texas Public School Nutrition Policy

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) presents the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy (TPSNP). It includes a four-year implementation schedule, the 2007-08 updated policy and all revisions for school years 2008-09 and 2009-10. These documents will not only help you and your school anticipate and prepare for the changes ahead, but also ensure that Texas remains committed to the nutritional health of its children. We thank all the stakeholders who partnered with TDA to develop a broad consensus for the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy implementation; their input has been invaluable.
